HEH now! Some of us "older crowd"(72yo here) love the FK8 styling and think the FL5 is taxi cab style with a Boi Racer wing hung on the back. I think you misunderstood. I like the FK8. I'm saying Honda decided to tone things down yet added a tacked on looking spoiler. Honda is weird. Lol
Power in the new model is up from 320PS to 329PS (242kW), while torque jumps from 400Nm to 420Nm (310 lb-ft). A more efficient turbocharger, an upgraded air intake and refined exhaust have all gone some way to improving the throttle response, and overall the difference is noticeable.
The FlashPro allows full user tuning and datalogging for your Civic Type R (FL5) 2.0 Turbo. Add 45 hp and 50lb-ft torque at the click of a button. Honda Civic Type R FL5. If any car can knock the FK8 off its throne, it might well be this one. The FL5 Civic Type R is the latest and – hopefully – greatest hot hatch to roll off the Honda production line. First things first, let’s tackle the biggest gripe that people had about the old car: the exterior design. Happily, it’s good news!
Honda Malaysia has not said anything about launching the FL5 2022 Civic Type R here yet, but considering that the company had launched two generations of Civic Type Rs (FD2 and FK8), there is little reason to doubt its introduction here. The FK8 Civic Type R was last sold in Malaysia for RM 330k. As an imported model, it gets slapped with a 30
Car and driver has the corolla at 3187lbs vs the type r at 3174lbs. Not much, the type r how ever does have more power 315vs300 hp and more torque 310vs295. Also this test shows both the type r and corolla with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The difference there is the size, type r is at 265 vs 245 on the corolla.
The white paintwork highlights the Type R-specific bits very nicely. There’s a big grille to cool the 2.0-litre turbo, for which exact figures are unhomologated as yet, a bonnet duct to pull air
The thinner sidewalls on the FK8 due to the larger wheels compared to the new FL5 could also be contributing to the difference in steering feel. Also fwiw, my FK8 Type R actually has pretty similar steering feedback to my 991.2 Carrera T, it's pretty darn good for EPS.
